We call this the highlight of our year so far here at the Solomons Plein Air Festival. A shining moment, if you will. Why all the light-hearted puns? Well, we’re excited for our future, which looks bright!
We’re bursting at the seams to tell you all about our new acquisition for 2017, and our partner who is making it all happen. But first, a little background. In 2016, we had our biggest and undoubtedly best festival yet. Our major event, the Affaire of the Arts, was held at the Holiday Inn in Solomons to allow for more space and more art than previous years. We received many compliments from art collectors, spectators and artists alike about the beautiful event and how well-executed it was. But (and there’s always a “but”!) the artists had a nearly unanimous opinion about one thing: not enough lighting.
To this end, we are excited to announce our partnership with Dominion Energy at Cove Point to bring the festival all-new lighting, designed specifically for showing off the beauty of our paintings. The artists work tirelessly all week to produce the breathtaking plein air paintings that our festival is known for, and we quite literally want to highlight their beautiful works of art. By partnering with Dominion Energy, we’ve begun to bring this exciting goal to fruition.
NEW IN 2017
Dominion Energy produces and transports energy across the country, making for a perfect partner for our lighting designs. With 110,000 hours of volunteer service and over $23 million in charitable giving, Dominion Energy cares for many communities just like ours. And close to home, Dominion Energy’s Vice President of LNG Operations, Michael Frederick, has a special appreciation for the arts. As past president of Annmarie Garden, one of the many painting locations available to our plein air painters, Frederick has been instrumental in acquiring funding for the arts in Calvert County.
We are thrilled to begin this partnership with Dominion Energy to light the way with premium lighting fixtures. Join us at the Solomons Plein Air Festival, September 18 – 24 to see these fantastic lights in action.
